Fire at Hyderabad furniture store kills five, including children
At least five people, including two children and an elderly woman, died after a fire broke out at a four-story furniture store in Hyderabad, southeastern India, authorities reported Sunday.
The blaze erupted late Saturday in the Nampally area, trapping several individuals in the building’s basement and prompting emergency rescue operations.
“Five bodies, including two boys and an elderly woman, were recovered from the cellar of the building,” a senior police official told the Press Trust of India.
Vikram Singh Mann, director general of the Telangana Fire Disaster Response and Emergency Services, announced that the store owner would face charges of criminal negligence. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
