Eid Holidays: ANEF publishes forest fire risk map across Morocco
The National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF) has released a detailed identifying forest fire risk zones across Morocco for the period from May 26 to May 29, coinciding with the Eid holiday season. The assessment is based on scientific models analyzing vegetation types, combustibility levels, and topographic and climatic conditions.
several areas are classified as facing an extreme risk of forest fires, including the provinces of Kenitra, Khémisset, Rabat, Salé, and Skhirate-Temara. These regions are considered highly vulnerable due to environmental conditions that increase the likelihood of fire outbreaks.
The agency also identified a high risk level in provinces such as Chefchaouen, Fahs-Anjra, Tangier-Assilah, Ifrane, Taounate, Essaouira, and Agadir-Ida Ou Tanane. Meanwhile, a moderate risk level has been recorded in Larache, Ouezzane, Tetouan, M’Diq-Fnideq, and Taza.
ANEF has urged residents living near forest areas, summer visitors, and workers in forest environments to exercise extreme caution during this period. The agency emphasized the importance of taking preventive measures to avoid any fire outbreaks, particularly during the holiday season when forest activity tends to increase.
Authorities are also calling on citizens to promptly report any smoke sightings or suspicious behavior to local officials in order to ensure rapid response and containment of potential fires.
