Education in Souss-Massa: A New Partnership to Enhance Learning and Sustainability
The Souss-Massa Regional Academy for Education and Training and the National Agency for the Development of Oasis Areas and Argan Trees (ANDZOA) have signed a landmark agreement to improve education and promote sustainability in the region.
The agreement, valued at MAD 34 million, aims to address educational challenges in rural and semi-urban areas. It includes infrastructure upgrades, support for students with disabilities, and the promotion of sustainable development practices. ANDZOA is contributing MAD 10 million to this initiative.
Key measures include:
Replacing outdated school facilities with modern infrastructure.
Constructing and equipping six ecological preschool units.
Installing solar water heaters and washing facilities in 60 boarding schools.
Establishing reading and study spaces in 20 girls’ boarding schools.
Raising awareness among students and teachers about sustainable development education.
The agreement also seeks to improve conditions for children with disabilities. This aligns with recent data from the Ministry of Education, which revealed that Morocco's school dropout rate reached 294,458 students in the 2022-2023 academic year. Of this, 45.5% were from rural areas, with girls accounting for 38.64% of the total dropouts.
Through this partnership, Souss-Massa aims to create a more inclusive and sustainable educational environment, addressing long-standing challenges in access and quality of education.
