Duke Buchan sworn in as US ambassador to Morocco, vows to deepen ties

The US Embassy in Rabat announced that Duke Buchan was officially sworn in as the new United States Ambassador to Morocco. The swearing-in ceremony, held on Tuesday, marks the final step before Buchan assumes his post in Rabat, where he is expected to arrive in the coming days.

In a statement, the embassy shared Buchan’s enthusiasm for strengthening the historic partnership between the US and Morocco, which dates back to the Treaty of Peace and Friendship of 1786, the oldest unbroken treaty in US history. The new ambassador's appointment follows confirmation by the US Senate earlier this month.

Strengthening bilateral cooperation

Buchan’s arrival comes at a pivotal time as Morocco and the US continue to deepen ties in trade, security, renewable energy, and education. The two nations have also collaborated closely on regional stability and development initiatives in Africa, further solidifying their strategic partnership.

During his Senate confirmation, Buchan emphasized Morocco’s critical role as a “pillar of stability” in the region, citing the country’s strategic location and its importance to American national security. He pledged to bolster economic and security cooperation while addressing shared global challenges.
