Drone strike hits gas facility in Iraqi Kurdistan

A drone attack late Wednesday targeted a gas installation operated by a company from the United Arab Emirates in Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan region, temporarily disrupting gas supplies to several power stations, local authorities reported.

According to the regional gas and electricity directorate, the unmanned aircraft struck the Khor Mor gas field at 11:30 p.m. local time (8:30 p.m. GMT). The hit forced an immediate shutdown of gas transmission to nearby power plants, prompting concerns about potential electricity shortages if the outage persisted.

Officials did not provide details on the origin of the drone or possible responsibility for the attack. The Khor Mor facility, a strategic site for the region’s energy production, has previously faced security incidents amid ongoing tensions involving armed groups in northern Iraq.

Authorities said technical teams had been deployed to assess the damage and restore operations as quickly as possible.
