A proposed framework agreement between Iran and the United States could pave the way for the release of approximately $25 billion in frozen Iranian assets, according to a senior Iranian official, signaling potential progress in efforts to ease tensions between the two longtime adversaries.

The draft memorandum of understanding reportedly addresses several key issues that have complicated relations between Washington and Tehran for years, including economic sanctions, Iran’s nuclear activities, regional security, and energy exports.
