Digitizing Degrees: UM6P's Blockchain Solution Receives International Award

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Morocco has garnered prestigious global recognition for its pioneering use of blockchain technology to secure academic credentials. The university's "Trust, Track and Trace" (T3) solution recently clinched the World Summit Awards in the Government and Citizen Engagement category.

T3 stands out as a groundbreaking "phygital" platform, seamlessly integrating the digital and physical realms to authenticate academic degrees. By assigning each diploma a unique digital identity on the blockchain, institutions and prospective employers can readily verify qualifications. Consequently, students gain enhanced ability to showcase their skills on a global scale.

UM6P's innovative technology debuted in 2023 with the creation of the "world's first phygital bachelor's degree" in collaboration with Morocco's Ministry of Education. This advancement enables diploma verification through a simple QR code scan using a smartphone camera or NFC reader.

The development of the T3 solution was spearheaded by a team led by Dr. Rafia El Alami and Professor Hafid Griguer. Its overarching goal is to streamline student mobility worldwide while augmenting graduates' digital visibility regarding competencies.

By clinching the esteemed WSA award, UM6P underscores its commitment to revolutionizing education through innovation. The university asserts that this global accolade reaffirms its determination to transform certification on a global scale through innovative technologies.

UM6P is slated to receive the World Summit Award during a ceremony in Chile scheduled from April 14th to 17th. This recognition further solidifies UM6P's reputation for developing solutions that garner international acclaim and foster positive change in education.
