Deutsche Telekom to invest over €1 billion in AI factory with Nvidia
Deutsche Telekom is entering the artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure market in a major way. CEO Timotheus Höttges announced in Berlin the launch of a joint project with U.S. chip giant Nvidia to build an AI factory in Munichworth over one billion euros.
“Without AI, you can forget about industry. Without AI, you can forget about Germany as a business location,” Höttges said, stressing Europe’s lag in using AI computing power — only 5% of AI high-performance chips are currently used in Europe, compared to 70% in the U.S.
The data processed by the Munich AI cloud will remain entirely in Germany, with operations handled exclusively by staff from Germany and Europe. According to Höttges, the project’s technology will come from Germany and the U.S., ensuring data security and sovereignty for European companies.
The initiative aims to make Germany a competitive player in AI infrastructure and encourage widespread industrial adoption of artificial intelligence.
