Denmark reports new drone sightings over country’s largest military base

Danish authorities confirmed on Saturday that unidentified drones were detected flying over and around the country’s largest military base, Karup Airbase, on Friday evening. The incident, which lasted several hours, follows a string of drone sightings earlier in the week that disrupted operations at multiple airports, including Copenhagen.

Police officer Simon Skelsjaer told AFP that “one or two drones were observed outside and above the airbase around 8:15 p.m. local time.” He added that the drones were not shot down and that no comment could be made about their origin.

The event comes after a series of alerts in recent days: Copenhagen Airport was forced to close for several hours on Monday, while drones were spotted over four regional airports—Aalborg, Esbjerg, Sonderborg, and the Skrydstrup Airbase—later in the week. One airport was temporarily closed overnight Thursday to Friday after another unidentified drone incursion.

The repeated appearances of these devices have raised concerns about national security and air safety in Denmark, a country that has strengthened its surveillance systems in recent years amid growing tensions in Europe. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether these drones represent technical failures, civilian incursions, or potential hostile activity.
