Deadly explosion targets a hotel in Kabul
A deadly explosion struck a hotel in the Afghan capital Kabul on Monday, according to local police and Taliban authorities, raising renewed concerns about security in the city.
Khalid Zadran, spokesperson for the Kabul police, confirmed that an explosion occurred inside a hotel located in one of the city’s districts. He stated that the blast resulted in casualties, without immediately providing further details.
The Taliban government also acknowledged the incident. Abdul Mateen Qani, spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, told media outlets that both injuries and fatalities had been reported. Emergency responders, including firefighters, were seen at the scene shortly after the explosion.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the blast or identified any group responsible. An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Despite repeated assurances from the Taliban that security has improved since their return to power, Kabul has continued to experience sporadic attacks and violent incidents.
