Dachser to launch Morocco's first green-certified logistics hub in Tangier Automotive City
Dachser is set to revolutionize Morocco’s logistics landscape with the construction of a cutting-edge facility spanning 75,000 square meters in Tangier Automotive City. Scheduled for completion by June 2026, the project recently secured MAD 206.5 million ($20.65 million) in financing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). It will be Morocco’s first private logistics center certified under international sustainability standards.
A strategic presence in Morocco
Having operated in Morocco since 1984, Dachser has established itself as a key logistics player, leveraging Tangier’s strategic potential. The company’s journey began with a site near the port in 2003, followed by a 5,500 square meter warehouse at Tangier Med in 2021. The new facility will further expand this footprint, combining road, air, and sea freight services alongside warehousing operations.
The project, valued at MAD 284.3 million ($28.43 million), includes a 20,000 square meter warehouse equipped with dedicated customs facilities, ensuring faster transit times and enhanced connectivity across 18 European countries. “Our new platform will offer a full spectrum of services throughout the logistics chain,” said Dachser CEO Burkhard Eling during the groundbreaking ceremony.
Tangier Med: A global logistics gateway
Tangier Med, operational since 2007, has emerged as a global logistics hub. With connections to 186 ports worldwide and home to over 900 companies, it plays a pivotal role in linking North Africa to international markets. “In Tangier Med, we’ve built a stable bridge between continents,” noted M’hamed Chraibi, Regional Managing Director Maghreb & Türkiye at Dachser.
The port’s strategic location on the Strait of Gibraltar facilitates trade in key industries such as automotive, textiles, aerospace, and retail, making it an essential node in global supply chains.
Sustainability and innovation
Dachser’s new Tangier facility is designed to meet EDGE Advanced certification, a benchmark for energy efficiency, water conservation, and sustainable construction. Supported by the EBRD and the Finance and Technology Transfer Centre for Climate Change (FINTECC) program, the site will incorporate advanced green technologies, including on-site renewable energy systems, resource-efficient devices, and high-performance HVAC systems.
Beyond environmental goals, Dachser is addressing gender diversity in the logistics sector. The company plans to recruit at least 15 women for operational roles in the new warehouse, supported by specialized managerial training programs.
Enhancing Morocco’s logistics ecosystem
Dachser’s operations in Tangier Med are fully digitalized, ensuring transparency and efficiency. The company is also expanding its presence with a new customs warehouse in Marrakech, complementing existing facilities in Mohammedia and Tangier. Additionally, Dachser’s Strasbourg gateway provides daily shuttles to Morocco, consolidating European trade volumes and optimizing delivery schedules.
“The combination of Road Logistics and Air & Sea Logistics divisions at one site creates seamless solutions for clients, empowering their nearshoring strategies,” added Chraibi. Dachser’s commitment underscores Morocco’s growing prominence as a logistics and industrial hub, attracting global investment and facilitating trade between Europe and Africa.
