Comediablanca expands to five day festival with global ambitions

The Comediablanca festival has launched its third edition in Casablanca, marking a significant shift in scale and ambition for the Moroccan comedy event. Building on international performances in Paris, Brussels and an upcoming show in Montreal, the festival returns with a broader format and a stronger focus on cultural development.

This year’s edition extends over five days, compared with two in previous years. Organizers have introduced a structure that combines live performances with training and audience engagement. The expansion reflects a strategy to position the festival as a platform that connects artists, audiences and emerging talent within a unified cultural framework.

A key addition is two days of free masterclasses scheduled for June 2 and 3. These sessions aim to support knowledge transfer and professional development in the comedy and performing arts sectors. Participants will engage with established figures including Taliss, artistic director Amir Rouani and actor Mouna Fettou, who will share insights into performance, creative direction and storytelling. The program seeks to strengthen skills among young creatives while widening access to cultural education.

The main performances will take place from June 4 to 6 at the Complexe Mohammed V. The opening night will feature a Moroccan gala bringing together a wide range of local comedians under the direction of Taliss. The following evening will focus on Jalil Tijani, presenting a revised version of his well-known show with guest appearances and interactive elements designed to engage the audience more directly. The closing night will host a francophone gala led by Kheiron, with performers from different comedy scenes sharing the stage.

Beyond performances, the festival will include an immersive village designed as a cultural gathering space. Organizers aim to create a broader experience that integrates entertainment with social interaction and creative exchange. Since its launch, the event has attracted more than 11,000 spectators, with expectations of over 15,000 attendees for this edition.

The project is led by Tendansia founders Myriam Bouayad Amine and Saad Lahjouji Idrissi, who seek to establish comedy as a unifying cultural force. The latest edition signals a move toward international positioning while reinforcing the festival’s role within Morocco’s cultural landscape.
