CNSS allocates 65 Billion Lebanese pounds for surgical procedures

The Lebanese National Social Security Fund (CNSS) has announced a new disbursement of 65 billion Lebanese pounds (approximately $726,000) to public and affiliated hospitals, specifically allocated for flat-rate surgical procedures. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen support for the country's strained healthcare system.

According to the CNSS, total allocations for surgical interventions in 2025 have now reached approximately 1.5 trillion pounds (around $16.9 million). These contributions are in addition to 637 billion pounds for dialysis treatments and 630 billion pounds for other essential health services, including doctor visits and prescription medications. So far this year, the CNSS has distributed a total of nearly 2.8 trillion Lebanese pounds (about $31 million).

Director General Mohammad Karaki urged partner hospitals to submit complete documentation within the legal deadlines to ensure timely payments and maintain smooth collaboration between healthcare providers and the CNSS. He reiterated the fund's commitment to sustaining the health sector and safeguarding the well-being of insured citizens, despite the country’s financial challenges.

In mid-April, the CNSS confirmed that its reimbursement rates had returned to pre-crisis levels, now covering 80% of medication costs and 90% of hospitalization fees. These rates had dramatically declined in recent years due to the depreciation of the Lebanese pound but began recovering in 2022.
