China evacuates citizens amid escalating Iran-Israel conflict
China has evacuated over 1,600 of its nationals from Iran and several hundred more from Israel due to the escalating hostilities between the two nations, according to a spokesperson from the Chinese foreign ministry. Speaking at a routine press briefing, Guo Jiakun stated that evacuation operations are still underway and that China remains in close communication with Iran, Israel, Egypt, and Oman.
Guo urged all parties involved, particularly Israel, to implement an immediate ceasefire to prevent further escalation.
The crisis intensified on Thursday when Israel targeted a critical Iranian nuclear facility, while Iran responded with missile attacks that struck an Israeli hospital. This marked nearly a week since Israel initiated what it described as "pre-emptive strikes" on Iran.
China’s embassy in Iran has once again advised its citizens to exit the country using land routes, cautioning that heavy congestion is causing delays at two border checkpoints Astara on the way to Azerbaijan and Bajgiran toward Turkmenistan, located roughly 490 km and 910 km from Tehran, respectively.
Additionally, Chinese nationals have been encouraged to consider exiting Iran through Turkey, Armenia, or Iraq.
On the same day, China’s embassy in Israel announced plans to begin evacuations in stages starting Friday, using buses to transport citizens wishing to leave to the Taba Border Crossing into Egypt, situated about 360 km from Tel Aviv.
