China Eastern Airlines aircraft collides with jet bridge at Shanghai airport
An aircraft operated by China Eastern Airlines was involved in a ground incident at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport after colliding with a jet bridge while taxiing toward its parking position, according to state media reports.
The incident occurred around midday on Saturday during routine airport operations. Despite the collision, all passengers on board were safely evacuated from the aircraft without injuries and were able to disembark in an orderly manner.
Preliminary information provided by the airline suggests that the aircraft experienced a mechanical issue while moving slowly toward the gate area. The crew followed standard safety procedures, but the aircraft made partial contact with the jet bridge.
China Eastern Airlines expressed regret over the incident and confirmed that relevant authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the malfunction and assess any operational or technical failures involved.
Airport ground operations were briefly affected as safety teams inspected the area and ensured that no further risks were present. Aviation authorities are expected to review maintenance records and operational protocols as part of the ongoing inquiry.
While such incidents are rare, they highlight the importance of strict safety procedures in airport ground handling operations and aircraft docking systems.
