China cements its dominance in global digital device manufacturing
China continues to dominate global digital device manufacturing, with recent data showing that the country accounts for nearly 60% of worldwide production capacity across a broad range of technology products.
According to an analysis by Ember based on data from specialist sources, including the International Energy Agency, China represents 58.8% of global digital device manufacturing capacity, placing it far ahead of other major production centres.
Taiwan ranks second with 10.2%, followed by South Korea at 6.7% and Japan at 4.8%. Together, China, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan account for more than 80% of global manufacturing capacity, highlighting the strong concentration of the digital technology supply chain in Asia.
China’s manufacturing strength extends across multiple segments, including electronic devices, display panels, printed circuit boards and a wide range of components used in digital products. Its extensive network of manufacturers, suppliers and assembly facilities also allows different stages of production to operate within a closely connected industrial ecosystem.
This integrated manufacturing base has helped China consolidate its role in global supply chains, making the country a key production centre for a wide range of digital products sold in markets around the world.
Other Asian economies are also expanding their presence in technology manufacturing. India ranks fifth globally with 3.8% of manufacturing capacity, while Vietnam holds sixth place with 3.6%. Their growing shares reflect efforts to expand production beyond traditional Asian manufacturing centres.
The United States ranks seventh with 2.9%, followed by Thailand at 1.3%, Mexico at 1.2% and Germany at 0.7%.
The figures highlight the geographical concentration of digital device manufacturing and the continued importance of Asian production networks. They also underline China's substantial lead over other manufacturing hubs in terms of overall capacity.
