China calls for restraint as tensions over the Strait of Hormuz intensify

China has expressed deep concern over renewed military tensions in the Gulf region, urging all parties to exercise restraint and safeguard freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most strategically important maritime corridors.

Speaking at a regular press briefing, a spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of maintaining stability in the Gulf and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of countries bordering the waterway. Beijing also emphasized that safe and uninterrupted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz is essential for global trade and energy security.

The comments come as geopolitical tensions have raised concerns about the movement of commercial vessels through the narrow passage, which handles a significant share of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas exports. Any disruption to shipping in the area has the potential to affect global energy markets, transportation costs, and international supply chains.

China called on all sides to avoid further escalation, preserve existing ceasefire efforts where possible, and seek diplomatic solutions to reduce the risk of additional conflict.
