China and the United States seek a more stable relationship after Xi-Trump summit
Chinese President Xi Jinping praised what he described as a “new positioning” in relations between China and the United States following a high-level meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Beijing.
According to statements released after the summit, both leaders expressed support for maintaining a constructive and strategically stable relationship between the world’s two largest economies over the coming years. Chinese officials said the discussions focused on balancing cooperation with carefully managed competition in order to reduce tensions and encourage long-term stability.
President Xi stated that the relationship should be based mainly on cooperation while allowing room for controlled competition. He emphasized the importance of preventing disagreements from escalating into broader conflicts that could affect global peace and economic stability.
The Chinese leader also called for expanded cooperation in several sectors, including trade, agriculture, public health, tourism, law enforcement, and cultural exchanges between citizens of both countries. Analysts believe such cooperation could help rebuild trust after years of diplomatic and economic tensions.
Despite the positive tone of the meeting, Xi reiterated China’s strong position regarding Taiwan. He urged Washington to handle the issue with caution, warning that mismanagement could create serious risks for bilateral relations. China considers Taiwan part of its territory, while Taiwan maintains its own democratic government and rejects Beijing’s claims.
The summit drew international attention as observers continue to monitor the evolving relationship between Beijing and Washington, especially amid ongoing geopolitical and economic challenges.
