Chichaoua: Mayor caught in act of corruption
The head of a municipality in Morocco’s Chichaoua province was arrested on Tuesday evening after being caught receiving a bribe of 10,000 dirhams.
The arrest was conducted by the Royal Gendarmerie in coordination with the competent public prosecutor’s office, following a complaint submitted through the dedicated anti-corruption hotline.
According to available information, the mayor allegedly requested the sum from a citizen in exchange for granting an electricity connection permit. Authorities, once alerted, set up a carefully planned surveillance operation that allowed them to catch the official in the act of receiving the money.
The municipal official has been placed in custody while the investigation continues, aiming to clarify all circumstances surrounding the case and implement appropriate legal sanctions.
