Casablanca to launch 2026 WSL junior series season in May

Casablanca will host the opening event of the 2026 Junior Qualifying Series, marking the start of the World Surf League season for Europe and Africa. The Morocco Mall Junior Pro Casablanca will take place from May 6 to May 10 at Ain Diab beach. The competition targets surfers under 20 and introduces a joint format that allows participants to earn points across both regional circuits.

The event represents the first co-sanctioned junior competition between the European and African divisions. This structure aims to strengthen competition levels and create broader pathways for young athletes. Organizers expect strong participation, with rising talents from both regions seeking early-season rankings that could shape qualification prospects for higher-level competitions.

Casablanca offers consistent Atlantic swells throughout the year, making Ain Diab a reliable venue for competitive surfing. The beachbreak is known for its variable wave patterns, ranging from fast and hollow sections to longer, more open rides. These conditions allow judges to assess a wide range of technical skills, including speed control, maneuver execution, and wave selection. The city has previously hosted this event multiple times, with the last edition held in 2024.

Early registrations indicate strong international interest. Confirmed competitors include Axel Dominguez from France, Lukas Skinner from Great Britain, Rayna Squalli from Morocco, Victoria Backhaus from Italy, and Anais Blanchard from France. Their participation reflects the growing competitiveness of the junior circuit and the increasing visibility of Moroccan surfers on the international stage.

The event also reinforces Casablanca’s role as a regional hub for major sporting competitions. Alongside the contest, the Morocco Mall continues to position itself as a key partner, combining retail, cultural programming, and large-scale events to attract both local and international audiences. The World Surf League, active since 1976, continues to expand its global footprint while promoting performance standards and ocean conservation within the sport.
