Casablanca police open judicial inquiry after officer’s attempted suicide following fatal shooting

Casablanca, October 18, 2025 — The prefectural service of the Casablanca Judicial Police has launched a formal investigation under the supervision of the public prosecutor to clarify the circumstances surrounding the attempted suicide of a police officer allegedly involved in a fatal shooting.

According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), preliminary findings indicate that a police brigadier assigned to the motorcycle unit shot and killed a woman he was accompanying in a private vehicle for reasons that are still under investigation.

When police patrols intervened to arrest him, the officer allegedly tried to flee, firing two bullets without causing injuries, before attempting to take his own life with his service weapon. The shot caused a severe head injury, and he was immediately transferred to intensive care in critical condition.

The victim’s body has been transferred to the morgue for autopsy, while investigators continue collecting evidence and conducting technical analyses to determine the exact motives behind the crime.

Initial findings suggest a possible crime of passion, though authorities have not ruled out other motives pending further investigation.
