The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has expressed his pride in Morocco’s key role in the advancement of football throughout Africa. Speaking in Sale, Morocco, following the draw for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Motsepe acknowledged the nation's outstanding contributions and its top-tier sports infrastructure.

Motsepe began his address by thanking His Majesty King Mohammed VI, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) Fouzi Lekjaa, and the Moroccan people for their ongoing support of the sport. "I am very proud of Morocco’s role in the growth of football in Africa," he said during a press conference. The CAF President highlighted the high quality of Morocco’s sports infrastructure, which is accessible to other African nations, encouraging them to adopt Morocco’s approach as a model.

He also praised the effective collaboration between the Moroccan government, the FRMF, and other stakeholders, calling it a benchmark for success in the continent's football development. Looking ahead to WAFCON 2025, Motsepe expressed confidence that the tournament would be an exciting and competitive event. He referred to the impressive performances of African teams in the 2023 Women’s World Cup as evidence of the growing strength of women’s football across the continent.

“The level and quality of women’s football have improved greatly," he noted. "We will witness the best of African women’s football, and the world will see the incredible talent of African players."

In a parallel statement, FRMF President Fouzi Lekjaa reiterated Morocco’s commitment to hosting a successful WAFCON. He credited Morocco’s leadership in African football to the vision of King Mohammed VI, emphasizing the nation's dedication to welcoming African players with warmth. “Morocco will once again welcome African players with open arms. The players and fans will feel at home in their second country,” Lekjaa stated.

As part of the event, the WAFCON draw was held, placing host nation Morocco in Group A alongside DR Congo, Senegal, and Zambia. Group B features Nigeria, Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana, while Group C includes South Africa, Ghana, Mali, and Tanzania.
