Bukele secures New Ideas nomination for El Salvador's 2027 presidential election

President Nayib Bukele has secured the presidential nomination of El Salvador's ruling New Ideas party for the 2027 presidential election, positioning himself to seek another term in office after winning the party's primary process.

The announcement confirms Bukele as the governing party's candidate ahead of the official electoral registration period. Party officials declared him the winner of the internal vote, although detailed voting results were not released.

Bukele is expected to formally register his candidacy with the country's electoral authorities later this year, in accordance with the official election calendar.

The nomination follows a series of constitutional reforms approved in recent years that reshaped El Salvador's electoral framework.
