Brigitte Bardot dies of cancer at 91

French actress and animal rights advocate Brigitte Bardot has passed away at the age of 91 after a battle with cancer, according to statements from her husband to Paris Match. Her funeral is scheduled for Wednesday in Saint-Tropez.

Bardot, a former film and music icon, had been hospitalized twice in the fall, although details of her condition were not publicly disclosed at the time. Her husband, Bernard d’Ormale, stated that she had endured two surgeries but ultimately succumbed to the illness. The couple did not specify the type of cancer.

Bardot was known for her lifelong dedication to animal welfare. D’Ormale highlighted that she remained conscious and concerned for animals until the end. She spent her final days at her famous Saint-Tropez villa, La Madrague, despite suffering from persistent back pain.

The funeral will take place at the Saint-Tropez maritime cemetery, where Bardot will be interred alongside her parents. D’Ormale explained that although she had wished to be buried at La Madrague, logistical concerns regarding crowds of visitors led her to accept the family plot.

Brigitte Bardot’s legacy remains influential in both French cinema and animal rights, marking the end of a remarkable life celebrated for art and advocacy.
