Brahim Diaz Faces Fitness Setback as Real Madrid Role Shrinks
Brahim Diaz is navigating a difficult spell at Real Madrid as persistent muscle discomfort has begun to limit his availability, according to Spanish newspaper AS.
The Morocco international remains part of José Mourinho’s plans, but his recent involvement has been significantly reduced as the club manages his physical condition. The issue is reportedly not new and has continued to affect the player over several matches.
Diaz first experienced the discomfort during Real Madrid’s Champions League encounter with Inter Milan. Despite the problem, he decided to remain on the pitch and continue contributing to the team.
From a strong Champions League display to reduced minutes
His performance against Inter highlighted what he can offer when fully involved. Diaz provided an assist for Kylian Mbappé and created another dangerous opportunity for Jude Bellingham.
The Moroccan also recorded four chances created, including three described as clear opportunities, while completing 15 passes in the final third. He successfully completed both of his attempted dribbles and won five of nine duels.
His physical numbers were also notable, with a top speed close to 32 kilometres per hour and a passing accuracy of 93%.
Yet his subsequent playing time has fallen sharply.
Across Real Madrid’s next three matches, Diaz accumulated just 22 minutes. He was not used against Rayo Vallecano, came on in the 68th minute against Elche and remained an unused substitute during the derby against Atlético de Madrid.
Player remains committed to Real Madrid
According to AS, the physical discomfort has reportedly extended beyond matchdays and has affected Diaz’s day-to-day life. The player nevertheless continues to make efforts to remain available whenever possible.
Mourinho is said to be aware of those efforts, particularly as competition for places remains intense within the Madrid squad.
Despite the reduced playing time and strong competition, Diaz has reportedly not considered leaving the club. There has also been no indication that Real Madrid’s management has asked him to search for another destination.
Fitness recovery becomes the immediate priority
For Diaz, the immediate objective is therefore to recover his full physical condition before attempting to reclaim a more consistent role in Mourinho’s plans.
His situation illustrates the balance required between maintaining competitive rhythm and managing a recurring physical problem during a demanding season. With Real Madrid competing on several fronts, a gradual return to full fitness could determine how quickly the Moroccan international resumes a regular presence in the team.
