Bordeaux prosecutor opens investigation into infant death linked to baby formula

The Bordeaux prosecutor’s office announced on Thursday the opening of a criminal investigation into the death of an infant who had consumed baby formula produced by Nestlé. The announcement follows recent health authorities’ investigations into the case.

According to Renaud Gaudeul, the public prosecutor in Bordeaux, the infant had been fed between January 5 and 7, 2026, with Guigoz-branded formula that was recalled due to possible contamination by the bacterium Bacillus cereus. Tests have been requested to determine whether the bacteria were present in the formula consumed by the child.
