Beni Mellal: Investigation opened after death of suspect at regional hospital
Judicial authorities in Beni Mellal have launched an investigation following the death of a person who was under judicial inquiry and later hospitalized at the Regional Hospital Center (CHR), according to official sources.
The local police department reported that the individual, who was being investigated in connection with a misdemeanor case, suffered a sudden health complication during procedural steps related to the judicial inquiry. Emergency services transferred the person to the hospital, where medical staff decided to admit them to the intensive care unit due to the seriousness of their condition.
Following instructions from the competent public prosecutor, custody measures were lifted prior to the individual’s death being officially confirmed. Authorities stressed that the decision was taken in light of medical considerations and legal procedures.
An autopsy has been ordered to establish the exact cause of death. In parallel, the public prosecutor has instructed the opening of a judicial investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The inquiry includes hearing several witnesses and reviewing surveillance camera footage from the locations where the individual was held during the preliminary investigation phase.
