Aveyron inaugurates France’s largest collective self-consumption solar project
This Friday, September 26, the commune of La Rouquette in Aveyron will inaugurate the largest citizen-led collective self-consumption project in France. According to Actu.fr, more than 10,500 m² of photovoltaic panels have been installed on the communal parking lots of the ZAE de La Glèbe. With a total capacity of 2.3 MWc, the installation is expected to produce around 2,700 MWh per year, covering the electricity needs of approximately 2,220 residents, excluding heating and hot water.
The project is led by the SAS Ombrières de La Glèbe, which brings together the citizen cooperative EnerCOA, the Ouest Aveyron Communauté, the national network Énergie Partagée, the municipality of La Rouquette, and the local company MECOJIT. Remarkably, 98% of the electricity produced will be consumed within a 10 km radius, mainly by local businesses that have signed contracts lasting between three and ten years.
Funded by 429 shareholders and several public and private partners, the project required an investment of nearly €340,000. Énergie Partagée, which contributed €68,000, emphasized that “large-scale projects like this are essential” to accelerate the energy transition. The installation has also received the Énergie Partagée label, a mark of quality in renewable energy initiatives.
The inauguration will be open to the public, featuring school visits, educational stands, official speeches, and an evening concert. For local officials and project leaders, this initiative represents both strengthened energy autonomy and concrete economic benefits for the region.
