Avalanche on Mount Toubkal: three people reported missing

Local authorities in Morocco’s Al Haouz province announced on Sunday that three people have been reported missing following a sudden avalanche in the Mount Toubkal area.

According to official sources, the missing individuals include two Moroccan tourists and a mountain guide. They were part of a larger hiking group accompanied by two guides. The group had spent the night at a mountain refuge before beginning their descent toward Imlil early in the morning.

During the descent, a sudden snow collapse occurred, catching part of the group by surprise. The remaining hikers managed to return safely to the refuge without injuries.

Following the alert, local authorities, in coordination with Civil Protection services, security forces, and specialized mountain rescue teams, immediately launched extensive search operations. These efforts are being carried out despite particularly harsh weather conditions in the high-altitude area.

Authorities confirmed that search and rescue operations are ongoing, with all available human and logistical resources mobilized in hopes of locating the missing individuals as quickly as possible.
