Australia, Canada and India launch new technology and innovation partnership
Australia, Canada and India have officially launched a new trilateral initiative aimed at strengthening cooperation in cutting-edge technologies and promoting resilient supply chains. The announcement took place on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, where the three leaders introduced the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed the partnership in a post on the social media platform X, emphasizing that the initiative will unite democratic partners across three continents and three oceans. According to Modi, ACITI is designed to accelerate collaboration in emerging technologies, bolster clean-energy efforts and encourage the responsible adoption of artificial intelligence.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese joined Modi in affirming the strategic value of the agreement. In a bilateral meeting ahead of the summit, Albanese highlighted the strong and growing ties between Australia and India, noting cooperation in trade, defense, security, education and sustainable energy. He described the relationship as “fundamentally important” for both nations.
The ACITI Partnership is expected to create new opportunities for joint research, innovation projects and cross-border technological development, reinforcing the countries’ shared commitment to shaping a secure and sustainable global technological ecosystem.
