Audi and SAIC expand partnership to develop new generation models in China
German automaker Audi has announced an expansion of its collaboration with Chinese partner SAIC Motor, aiming to develop a new generation of vehicles tailored specifically for the Chinese market.
The strengthened partnership will focus on producing future models under a jointly developed brand, with several vehicles expected to be launched in the coming years. This initiative reflects the growing importance of China as a key market for electric mobility and automotive innovation.
The collaboration builds on a previously introduced electric vehicle lineup, designed to meet the expectations of Chinese consumers while adapting to local market dynamics. Notably, the new brand strategy emphasizes a distinct identity, moving away from traditional branding elements to better align with regional preferences.
As part of the agreement, the two companies also plan to establish a dedicated innovation and technology center in Shanghai. This facility is expected to accelerate research and development, particularly in areas such as electric drivetrains, digital features, and smart mobility solutions.
Industry analysts view this move as part of a broader trend in which global carmakers deepen local partnerships in China to remain competitive in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle sector.
