Aliyev hails US-Azerbaijan strategic partnership charter as ‘historic’ milestone

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev described the recently signed US-Azerbaijan Strategic Partnership Charter as a “historic” step forward, following high-level talks with US Vice President JD Vance in Baku on Wednesday.

Speaking at a meeting focused on Azerbaijan’s new digital development plan, Aliyev highlighted that the charter formalizes long-standing cooperation in areas such as security, energy, defense, connectivity, artificial intelligence, and data centers. “Everyone can see what it consists of,” he said, emphasizing the advantages the agreement brings in advancing digital and technological collaboration with American companies.

The deal reflects months of joint work between the two nations, elevating their bilateral relationship to a new strategic level. Aliyev also praised US support for peace initiatives with Armenia, noting that the two countries have maintained peace for six months following a US-backed agreement.

Vance emphasized that the charter provides a long-term framework for partnership and cooperation, including plans to enhance maritime security with the provision of boats to protect Azerbaijan’s territorial waters. Both sides also discussed regional economic projects, energy security, and the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) transport corridor.

The signing of the charter represents a step toward formalizing and expanding cooperation across economic, technological, and security sectors, signaling a strengthened alliance between Washington and Baku in the South Caucasus.
