AKDITAL expands in Saudi Arabia with Mecca hospital acquisition
Moroccan private healthcare group AKDITAL has completed the acquisition of a majority stake in Al Bishri Hospital in Mecca, marking another step in its international expansion strategy. The facility, located in the heart of the holy city, will now operate under the name AKDITAL Makkah Al Mukarramah.
The transaction follows the fulfilment of the regulatory and operational conditions attached to the memorandum of understanding signed on December 19, 2025. The acquisition comes shortly after AKDITAL expanded its presence in Riyadh, reinforcing the group's ambition to establish a broader healthcare network in Saudi Arabia.
AKDITAL Chairman and CEO Rochdi Talib described the completion of the transaction as the transition from a strategic objective to an operational reality. The group says the Mecca facility is expected to play an important role in its Saudi development, with an emphasis on medical quality, patient safety and integration into the local healthcare ecosystem.
Renovation programme to raise capacity to 126 beds
Alongside the acquisition, AKDITAL has launched a comprehensive programme to renovate and modernise the hospital. The project will increase its capacity from 120 to 126 beds, while upgrading its technical infrastructure and reorganising patient-care pathways.
The transformation will focus particularly on emergency medicine, critical care, cardiology, surgery and services dedicated to women and children. The planned configuration includes 19 emergency-care stations, including two for resuscitation, as well as 18 multidisciplinary intensive-care beds and eight cardiac intensive-care beds.
The hospital is also expected to include seven neonatal intensive-care beds, including one isolation bed, together with 13 nursery beds. Its surgical infrastructure will comprise seven main operating rooms and a dedicated obstetric operating room.
Additional facilities will include an endoscopy room, four delivery rooms, radiology services and a medical analysis laboratory.
A multidisciplinary facility serving Mecca's population
Once modernisation is completed, AKDITAL Makkah Al Mukarramah is expected to provide a broad range of medical services. These will include cardiology and interventional cardiology, general surgery, intensive and critical care, obstetrics and gynecology, neonatology, emergency medicine and medical imaging.
The location gives the hospital a dual role: providing healthcare for residents of Mecca while also supporting the medical needs associated with the city's large seasonal flow of pilgrims.
AKDITAL's initial agreement in December 2025 described Al Bishri as a 120-bed multidisciplinary hospital offering cardiology, interventional cardiology, general surgery, intensive care and radiology services.
Saudi expansion becomes a major growth pillar
The Mecca acquisition forms part of AKDITAL's broader strategy to establish a presence beyond Morocco. The group has already moved into the Saudi market through its Riyadh operations and is developing additional projects, including healthcare infrastructure in Jeddah.
The Saudi expansion is taking place against the backdrop of Saudi Vision 2030, which includes major efforts to develop healthcare infrastructure and expand access to medical services. AKDITAL has positioned its Saudi projects as part of this changing healthcare landscape.
The group has also established an international structure to oversee its operations outside Morocco, with Saudi Arabia forming a central component of its international development plans.
AKDITAL builds on its Moroccan network
The Mecca operation extends the international footprint of a group that has developed a substantial private healthcare network in Morocco. AKDITAL's Moroccan operations cover numerous cities and medical specialties, while the group has continued to increase its capacity through new facilities and acquisitions.
AKDITAL has been listed on the Casablanca Stock Exchange since December 2022. Its international expansion now represents a new phase in the company's development, with Saudi Arabia becoming one of the key markets in its strategy beyond Morocco.
