Aït Melloul 2 prison rejects claims about detainee’s health condition

The administration of Aït Melloul 2 Prison has denied allegations circulating on social media regarding the health condition of an inmate linked to the Gdeim Izik case.

In an official statement, prison authorities responded to a video shared online claiming that the detainee, identified by the initials I.A., was in critical condition and allegedly suffering from medical negligence while in custody.

According to the prison administration, the inmate is receiving medical care appropriate to his condition and is transferred to an external hospital whenever necessary. Officials stated that the detainee had already attended several scheduled medical appointments in recent months, emphasizing that these visits were part of routine healthcare procedures and not connected to any sudden deterioration in his health.

Authorities also rejected accusations that the inmate had been deprived of a medical foot support device. The administration affirmed that the detainee had already been provided with the required medical equipment and continues to move normally within the prison facility.

The statement added that the inmate is able to carry out daily activities independently, including moving between his cell, the prison courtyard and other areas without assistance.

The case has attracted attention on social media, where discussions surrounding prison conditions and detainee rights continue to generate debate. Moroccan prison authorities have repeatedly stated that healthcare services within correctional institutions are provided in accordance with legal and humanitarian standards.

The detainee is among individuals convicted in connection with the Gdeim Izik events, a case that has remained politically and legally sensitive for years in Morocco and internationally.
