Airbus defence launches major new campus in Greater Paris region

European aerospace giant Airbus has officially launched the construction of a new major defense and digital technology campus in the Greater Paris region, marking a significant investment in France’s strategic industrial capabilities.

The future “Campus Grand Paris,” located in Montigny-le-Bretonneux in the Île-de-France region of France, represents an investment of approximately €260 million. The site is expected to be delivered by early 2028 and will serve as a central hub for Airbus Defence and Space’s advanced digital operations.

The campus will host around 1,700 employees specializing in high-tech defense fields, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, quantum technologies, and secure information systems. These activities are considered critical to modern defense infrastructure and national security strategies across Europe.

Company executives described the project as a “large-scale initiative” aimed at strengthening Airbus’s long-term presence in France and supporting the development of next-generation defense technologies. The facility is designed to be highly secure and technologically advanced, reflecting the sensitive nature of its work.

The new site will replace existing operations in Élancourt while other aerospace activities will continue across Airbus facilities in Rennes and Toulouse. The company also maintains a wider network of regional offices across France to support its defense and security operations.

The campus is strategically located near the Paris-Saclay innovation cluster, an area known for its universities, laboratories, and technology startups. This proximity is expected to foster collaboration between industry and academic research, accelerating innovation in defense-related technologies.

Industry analysts note that Airbus’s investment reflects a broader trend in the European aerospace and defense sector, where companies are increasing spending on domestic infrastructure and advanced technologies. Other major French players, including Safran and Dassault Aviation, have also recently announced major investments in production and industrial modernization.

The initiative highlights France’s ambition to strengthen its defense industrial base while supporting high-skilled employment and technological sovereignty in critical sectors.
