Afriquia wins 52.6 million dirham contract to supply Tétouan power plant

The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) continues renewing its energy supply contracts with the awarding of a new contract to Afriquia SMDC for the provision of special fuel oil for the Tétouan gas turbine power plant. This award confirms the company’s recurring presence in public tenders related to fuel supply for Morocco’s electrical infrastructure.

A competitive tendering process

The contract follows open tender No. SC 4 129 876, held in a public session at ONEE headquarters in Casablanca under the supervision of the department responsible for fuel and electricity supply. Two companies participated in the bidding process: Afriquia SMDC and Pétrole du Maghreb (PETROM). After reviewing the administrative, technical, and financial documents, both bids were declared compliant.

The final decision was based on the financial criterion. Afriquia SMDC submitted the lowest bid at 52,604,100 dirhams, compared to 52,924,100 dirhams offered by its competitor — a difference of 320,000 dirhams. The tender commission approved the decision in accordance with public procurement regulations, as recorded in the official report signed on February 19, 2026.

Part of a broader energy supply strategy

The initial estimated budget for the contract was approximately 57.8 million dirhams. The winning offer came in below this projection while meeting all technical and administrative requirements outlined in the specifications.

The contract covers fuel supply for the Tétouan thermal power plant, a key facility for maintaining national grid stability, particularly during peak demand periods or production adjustments. Fuel-powered plants play an essential backup role in ensuring continuous electricity supply.

A strong position in the energy market

A subsidiary of the Akwa Group, Afriquia SMDC is among Morocco’s leading fuel distribution companies. It regularly participates in public tenders for energy infrastructure supply and has previously secured similar contracts for power plants in Mohammedia and Tan-Tan.

The award decision, confirmed after the commission concluded its work on February 12, 2026, is part of ONEE’s standard procedures aimed at securing strategic fuel supplies and ensuring the reliability of the national electricity network.
