Advancing Human Rights: Morocco's CNDH Takes Action on Emerging Issues

Morocco's National Council for Human Rights (CNDH) has reiterated its dedication to advancing human rights protections and addressing contemporary challenges within the nation. In recent statements, the CNDH expressed its support for the UN's 75th anniversary initiative and outlined specific commitments aimed at bolstering human rights in Morocco in the years ahead.

As part of the "Human Rights 75" campaign, the CNDH presented five pledges to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, with a focus on promoting the ratification of international conventions and ensuring their effective implementation at the national level. Notably, these pledges encompass monitoring emerging issues such as the impact of artificial intelligence and climate change on the realization of human rights.

The CNDH has committed to enhancing its capacities to produce thematic reports on these rapidly evolving issues in the realms of technology and the environment. Moreover, it has reaffirmed its support for the African Network of National Preventive Mechanisms against Torture by mobilizing financial and human resources, thereby facilitating knowledge exchange and addressing challenges across the continent.

Furthermore, the CNDH has pledged to actively participate in the formulation of new human rights instruments, as well as advocating for the establishment of an action plan addressing business and human rights. Notably, the CNDH has set an ambitious goal of conducting preventive and protective visits to all detention centers in Morocco over the next decade to safeguard detainee rights and prevent abuses.

Through these commitments made under the UN initiative, Morocco's foremost human rights institution demonstrates its resolve to make sustained progress in protecting human rights and ensuring accountability amid evolving global and local challenges. The CNDH reaffirms its institutional dedication to collaborating with stakeholders to foster an increasingly robust human rights environment in the country.
