Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal emerges as rising star at stade Rennais
Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal, the Moroccan international and Stade Rennais central defender, is quickly establishing himself as one of the most promising defenders of his age group, according to recent reports by Ouest France.
At just 19, Ait Boudlal has already become a key figure in Rennes’ defensive line, drawing attention for his performances in Ligue 1 and earning praise as one of the season’s standout surprises. Having joined Rennes in 2024 after six formative years at the Mohammed VI Football Academy in Rabat, the young defender’s trajectory has impressed both club and national team observers.
With the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) starting in Morocco on December 21, Ait Boudlal is considered a potential member of the senior national team, marking a significant step in his career. Ouest France describes him as “one of the world’s top defenders” and a bright prospect for the future of Moroccan football.
Previously, Ait Boudlal appeared in The Guardian’s 2023 list of the 60 best young talents worldwide. Though he did not participate in the recent U20 World Cup due to club commitments, he captained Morocco’s youth team and remains a respected figure among his coaches.
As he prepares for his first appearances with Morocco’s senior squad, many see his inclusion in the upcoming AFCON as the realization of a long-cherished dream.
