Netanyahu thanks Trump for calling to cancel corruption trial
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his gratitude to former U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday after Trump publicly called for the cancellation of Netanyahu’s ongoing corruption trial.
“I was deeply moved by your sincere support for me, and your incredible support for Israel and the Jewish people,” Netanyahu wrote in English on the social platform X. His message came shortly after he reshared a post by Trump in which the former American president described Netanyahu’s legal proceedings as a “witch hunt.”
In the message originally posted on Truth Social, Trump stated that the trial “should be CANCELED, IMMEDIATELY, or that a pardon be granted to a Great Hero.”
The comments from Trump have drawn attention at a time when Netanyahu continues to face charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust—allegations he has consistently denied. Trump’s outspoken defense highlights the close political relationship the two leaders have maintained over the years, especially during Trump’s time in office when U.S.-Israel relations saw a significant shift in policy and tone.
