Morocco Strengthens Global Security Alliances in 2024

Morocco has significantly bolstered its international security partnerships, demonstrating a robust commitment to combating crime and fostering global cooperation. The General Directorate for National Security (DGSN) reports that Morocco's election of a DGSN candidate as Interpol's vice president for Africa has been a pivotal moment in this endeavor.

Throughout the year, Morocco has deepened its security ties with nations across Latin America, Asia, and Africa. In May, the DGSN signed a memorandum of understanding with Brazil’s Federal Police. Additionally, the Directorate engaged in discussions with officials from Turkey, Serbia, Hong Kong, Senegal, China, and Norway to enhance security cooperation.

Morocco has also fortified its relationships with key European partners, including France, Germany, Spain, Belgium, and Italy. These collaborations focus on counterterrorism, transnational crime, and police training, highlighting Morocco's dedication to international security efforts.

In 2024, the DGSN processed over 6,800 international cooperation requests. These requests spanned various areas, including combating drug trafficking, illegal immigration, and sharing critical database information. Spain accounted for 37% of these requests, followed by France with 28%.

Morocco’s Interpol National Central Bureau in Rabat played a crucial role in tackling cross-border crime. The bureau processed over 7,000 requests, aiding in the recovery of 380 stolen vehicles and contributing to 135 arrests through international judicial cooperation.

Extraditions further underscored Morocco’s commitment to international law enforcement. The country extradited 82 individuals in 2024, marking a 52% increase from the previous year, and arrested 45 foreign nationals based on international warrants.

These developments highlight Morocco's growing influence and dedication to global security, making it a vital player in international law enforcement efforts.
